Why do all the "It's so funny!" Mario gifs fail to use the proper coloring for Mario? Dude was Brown and Red in the original SMB game
It is weird. fear of licensing thing, or, if it is from a major ad revenue meme site, they couldn't be bothered to be accurate? But I think Mario is colored to make him more recognizable with the 80% of kids who never saw SMB on NES?

Well, they are the official modern colors of Mario (look up Super Mario maker). But I personally think that they have to recolor him, because of copyright or licensing reasons.
